From the calcareous soils of Neuchâtel we can offer arguably Switzerland’s greatest wines; the Pinot Noirs of Jacques Tatasciore’s Domaine de la Rochette.
Jacques owns 5 hectares of densely-planted (1000/ha) old-vine Pinot spread across 8 distinct plots. The south-easterly facing vineyards that overlook Lake Neuchâtel have thin topsoil above Jurassic limestone that is remarkably similar to that found in Burgundy. His goal is "to produce top class Pinots reflecting their specific terroirs with Burgundian finesse and elegance." With fastidious attention to detail (he is Swiss after all!) only the very finest berries are selected with the rest sold off. Consequently production is tiny.
Jacques' wines have gained a reputation as some of the finest, if not the finest, in Switzerland and he has been awarded many honours, yet he apparently never attends the ceremonies, shunning the limelight to focus on his wines. There is no website, no tasting room, no marketing department. Jacques allows his wines to do the talking.
Quantities produced are very small indeed and finding original cases is rare. That said, we are excited to be able to offer 26 cases of the newly-released 2019 vintage.
